Projects developed in the West Siberian scientific and educational center of the world level can be recognized as successful only when not only scientists, but also business believe in them. Governor of the Tyumen Region Alexander Moor announced this during the fifth strategic session of the West Siberian REC, which is being held in the Tyumen Technopark.

“In 2020, the Center for the Development of Competencies began work in the West Siberian REC, while remotely. 336 people were trained there, ten scientific and technical team projects were formed. Five of them will be presented for possible inclusion in the REC development program, ”said the Governor.

At the end of last year, the competition for the provision of regional mega-grants to support scientific research led by leading scientists ended. Five research projects were selected, for each of which a grant of 150 million rubles was allocated from the regional budget for a period of five years. Three grants were received by the Tyumen State University, one by the Tyumen Medical University, and one more by the Ugra State University.

In addition, in 2020, the Tyumen Region provided grant support to nine research projects in the priority area of the REC “Biosafety”.

“These fourteen projects, together with several projects of our colleagues from the Khanty-Mansiysk and Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrugs, now form a solid basis for the REC development program. But this program is a living organism. Therefore, our session will consider a wide range of scientific, technical and humanitarian projects, the authors of which have ambitions to get into our program, ”said Alexander Moor.

In particular, one of the new promising areas of REC will be a project to create in the Tyumen region a so-called “carbon test site”, which will develop and test technologies for accounting and control of carbon balance. It is being implemented by the Tyumen State University and the SIBUR company.

Experts note that Tyumen, Yugra and Yamal are at the forefront of a federal project to create world-class scientific and educational centers, said Boris Ostrovsky, head of project work at the Skolkovo Moscow School of Management.

The session, which brought together more than 200 scientists and business representatives, will end on April 25.
