Car robber fails on Tesla Model 3 and shoots driver

by alex

A Tesla driver almost got hit by a bullet while attempting a robbery.

The Tesla cameras on the car body are primarily intended for the autopilot and other driver assistance systems. But they can also be used as surveillance cameras that record what is happening around the vehicle. In Florida, an attempted car robbery has now been documented in this way.

As the Tesla driver Draper Younce is sitting in his car waiting for a friend, a masked man walks up to Model 3. As can be seen in the recordings, the man pulls a gun and tries to open the driver's door.

A grip in the void

The gunman, however, shouldn't have too much experience with the Model 3. Because the door handles of the electric car are sunk into the body and not so easy to open. And so the robber reaches into the void when trying to open the door. If the Model 3 had conventional door handles, the incident would probably have turned out differently.

Immediately afterwards, Younce presses the gas pedal and accelerates the car across the parking lot in order to escape the robbery attempt. At that moment, the robber fires a shot at the vehicle. The ball lands in the B-pillar. Fortunately, Younce remains unharmed.

Crowdfunding for the capture of the robber

The Tesla driver has now started a crowdfunding campaign. With the money he has collected, he wants to put a bounty on the masked robber on the one hand. On the other hand, he would like to donate part of the money to a charity that takes care of young people on the street.
