New York Governor Andrew Cuomo called the capture of the Capitol in Washington by supporters of the current US President Donald Trump an attempted coup. The Daily Gazette reports.
According to him, this is the latest head of an “incompetent, brutal and divisive administration that has trampled on the Constitution and the rule of law at every turn.”
“We will not allow President Trump, the members of Congress who are helping him, or the criminal mob that stormed our country's Capitol, steal our democracy,” the governor said.
Protesters broke into the Capitol Building and surrounded the Senate Hall on January 6. The Senate and House of Representatives have suspended the meeting, which was planned to approve the results of the electoral college vote. According to these results, Democrat Joe Biden won the presidential election. Trump himself has called on supporters to act peacefully and support the police. The Capitol Building in Washington was later cleared of protesters.
