Capitol police asked to permanently leave the fence around the building of Congress
Police of the Washington Capitol have asked to leave the fence around the Congress building to protect against riots forever, RIA Novosti reports.
According to acting. Capitol Police Chief Yogananda Pittman, there have been proposals to fence the Congress building since 2006.
“In light of recent events, I can say with certainty that significant improvements are needed to the security infrastructure, including permanent fencing and a ready-to-respond standby force in close proximity to the Capitol,” Pittman said in a statement on the Capitol Police website.
Unprecedented security measures have been taken following the storming of the Capitol by Trump supporters on January 6 to protest the approval of the presidential election results. After that, the center of Washington and the parliament building itself were surrounded by a fence, and about 25 thousand National Guard fighters guarded the inauguration ceremony of the new President Biden.
Earlier it became known that part of the National Guard troops may remain in Washington until March.
