Cape Town South African Parliament fire: fire rages in building

On Sunday, January 2, a large fire broke out in the building of the South African Parliament in Cape Town.

Rescuers arrived at the building. Large flames and a huge column of smoke engulfed the parliament.

& # 8212; The roof caught fire, and the building of the National Assembly is on fire, & # 8212; said the spokesman for the city emergency services, asking for reinforcements to the scene.

The fire has not yet been localized, there are cracks in the walls of the building.

Photos posted on social media show flames piercing the roof of one of the parliament buildings.

There are no signs of what could have caused the fire.

The parliament building in Cape Town is divided into three sections, including the original and oldest building, which was completed in 1884.

New annexes built in the 1920s and 1980s house the National Assembly.
