Former Austrian ice hockey team boss Manny Viveiros has cancer. The 55-year-old made it public.
“I was unfortunately diagnosed with prostate cancer, so I had to skip the first part of the AHL season. We have already come up with a plan for how we want to continue,” said Viveiros, who is currently the Henderson Silver Knights, the farm team from NHL club Vegas Golden Knights, supervised, with.
“With the plan, we have the opportunity to treat the cancer. I have already been able to return to my work, which is an important part of my life,” continued Viveiros.
The 55-year-old will be working as a coach again until mid-December, when the former Austrian team boss and trainer of the KAC will have to undergo an operation.
The cancer in the ice hockey coach was discovered by accident. “In the Golden Knights training camp, everyone was given a blood test. My PSA value (prostate-specific antigen, note) was very high,” said Viveiros. Subsequent examinations then brought the cancer diagnosis to light.
“A simple blood test probably saved my life. We have some very positive news that doctors are confident they can cure the cancer,” concluded the Austro-Canadian.
