Former Canadian Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland has launched her election campaign for prime minister, declaring that is the best candidate to fight future US President Donald Trump
Bloomberg reports this.
Chrystia Freeland promised in her speech to fight for Canada, in particular to use counter-tariffs to put economic pressure on the US, which Trump will officially lead on January 20. He previously said he would impose high tariffs on Canadian goods, which could hurt the economy.
“If you hit us, we'll hit you back,” she said.
The former official also promised a “dollar for dollar” fight – retaliation for Washington's tariffs that would “inflict the biggest trade blow the United States has ever suffered.”
The former finance minister is vying for the Liberal Party leadership and prime minister of Canada after Justin Trudeau announced his resignation on January 6.
Bloomberg adds that if Freeland wins the election, she would become Canada's second female prime minister and the first to lead the Liberal Party party.
Note that on January 17, Chrystia Freeland announced her candidacy for the post of Prime Minister and leader of the Liberal Party.
