Canadian coach Brian Orser explained the return of Russian figure skater Evgenia Medvedeva to the group to coach Eteri Tutberidze. His words are quoted by RT.
Orser believed that the reason for the athlete's transition was the coronavirus pandemic, because of which she could not return to Canada. “I am 100 percent sure that Zhenya is now motivated by only one thing: she really wants to skate and she needs a coach. If a pandemic had not happened, we would never have discussed this topic, ”he said.
The coach added that the skater informed him of her departure a few days ago. “Both me and Zhenya understood how important it was to be able to work with a coach in real time. The need to study remotely was a serious challenge for both of us, ”he added.
Medvedeva announced her decision to return to the Tutberidze group earlier on September 16. The skater thanked Orser for the work done and understanding.
Medvedeva left Tutberidze for Orser in the summer of 2018 after losing to Zagitova in the individual tournament of the Olympics in Pyeongchang. In addition to the silver medal of the 2018 Games, under the leadership of Tutberidze, Medvedeva twice won the World, European and Grand Prix finals.
