Canadian civil servants banned from using TikTok: what is the reason

This decision was made in the country after a similar ban on the use of the social network in the European Commission and the United States.

In Canada, government employees have been banned from using the TikTok social network, which is owned by the Chinese company ByteDance Ltd, on their work gadgets. The government of the country believes that this social network puts privacy and security at risk.

This is reported by Reuters.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told reporters that his government is looking closely at how to keep Canadians safe online.

As the government bans TikTok on work phones, “many Canadians, businesses and individuals will consider the security of their own data and perhaps make a choice,” he said.

TikTok representatives said the decision to ban was made “without reference to any specific security issue or appeals.”

The European Commission passed a similar ban on TikTok last week. And last December, the US Senate introduced a bill to prevent federal employees from using the app on government devices.

Earlier, we reported that in the US state of Maryland, 82-year-old Butch Marion, who worked as a cashier, received more than 100 thousand dollars thanks to TikTok and was able to return to retirement.
