Canada warns of blood clots due to AstraZeneca vaccine

Health Canada has warned of blood clots after using the AstraZeneca SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus vaccine. The warning was placed in the text of the drug's instructions, according to the website of the Canadian Ministry of Health.

“The Department of Health assures Canadians that the AstraZeneca vaccine remains safe and effective against COVID-19. We urge people to be vaccinated with any vaccine approved for use in Canada, ”the agency said in a statement.

It also notes that in Canada there have been no cases of blood clotting disorders after vaccination with Covishield, a vaccine from AstraZeneca released in India.

Currently, a number of European countries have suspended or banned vaccination with AstraZeneca due to the detection of thrombosis in vaccinated patients. Meanwhile, the creators of the vaccine insist on its safety. The company said that a detailed study of the health status of more than 17 million people after vaccination showed no data on an increased risk of pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis or thrombocytopenia.

Representatives of the European Medicines Agency (EMA), in turn, reported 22 cases of thrombosis per three million AstraZeneca vaccinated in the EU.
