Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said the country is going to impose sanctions against Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. These measures will be taken in connection with the start of a special operation in the Donbass, he explained. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

“Canada announces our third set of harsh coordinated sanctions. First, we will impose sanctions against President Putin and other architects of this barbaric war,” Trudeau said, noting that the Russian Foreign Minister was also included in this list.

In addition, the prime minister admitted that the sanctions against Putin are only symbolic, since he is unlikely to have any property in Canada.

Earlier, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki revealed the essence of US sanctions against Vladimir Putin. They could include a “travel ban,” she said. She added that the details of the restrictions will be published later.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of a special military operation in the Donbass. His press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that its goal is the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, and the timing of the special operation will be determined by the supreme commander.
