European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen spoke about the role played by Canada in the early days and years of Ukraine's war against Russia.
Canada has made a decisive contribution to Ukraine's defense capability by providing military training to Ukrainian defenders for years.
This was told by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, writes Spiegel.
“I can't overstate it: Canada saved Ukraine in the first few days,” she said, speaking at Parliament in Ottawa.
According to von der Leyen, Canada understood the importance of what is happening in Ukraine before many others, including the Europeans themselves.
The President of the European Commission said that Canada began military training of the Ukrainian military even after the Russian annexation of Crimea in 2014. Thus, Canada made a decisive contribution to Ukraine's defense capability at the start of the Russian invasion in February 2022.
Von der Leyen also thanked Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for his cooperation in helping Ukraine: “Everything we did for Ukraine, we did together.”
We will remind, earlier Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced an increase in support for Ukraine. In particular, Canada will begin to teach Ukrainian defenders tactical medicine.
