Former British Ambassador to the United States Christopher Meyer said that former United States President George W. Bush confessed to him that he had little understanding of international affairs. Meyer's words are quoted by the Daily Mail.
According to him, Bush made such a statement at their first meeting in 1998, when he was still governor of Texas. “Bush acknowledged that, with the exception of Mexico, he had little understanding of international affairs and would benefit from broadening his experience. His worldview – as he is well aware – is largely limited by the horizons of Texas and Mexico, ”said Meyer.
The ambassador then urged the politician to visit Britain, but Bush responded that he could not afford to be seen on high-profile trips abroad in the run-up to gubernatorial elections in the fall.
Meyer also added that at this meeting, Bush seemed to him personable and possessing a self-critical sense of humor.
George W. Bush first won the presidential election in 2000 and served as the head of the American state for two terms, until 2009. Prior to that, from 1994 to 2000, he served as Governor of Texas.
