A bus carrying schoolchildren fell off a cliff and fell from a 20-meter height in Indonesia, almost 30 people were killed. This was reported by the country's Ministry of Transport, reports Reuters.
The accident occurred on the night of March 11 in the area of the city of Sumedang in the West Java province. The driver lost control in an area with a winding road, reports The New York Times.
The exact cause of the accident has not yet been established. According to the ministry, preliminary information indicates that the bus's roadworthiness data may be out of date. At the same time, The New York Times writes that the likely cause was the failure of the brakes – the survivors told about this.
In total, there were 62 people on the bus – high school students and an accompanying group of parents and teachers were heading on an excursion to the place of pilgrimage. As a result of the incident, 27 people were killed, including the driver. The rest received injuries of varying severity and were taken to hospital.
