The Bundestag adopted the FRG budget for 2021. At the plenary meeting on Friday, December 11, the draft main financial document was supported by 361 MPs, 258 MPs voted against. There were no abstentions.

The pandemic of coronavirus infection, considered as an emergency, made it possible to abandon the “debt brake” enshrined in the constitution – the principle of limiting public debt when forming the budget. Therefore, the expenditure side of the budget, approved in the amount of about 500 billion euros, will be financed by more than a third from loans, which will amount to almost 180 billion euros – the second largest indicator in the history of Germany. At the same time, tax revenues are planned at the level of 292.8 billion euros.

Additional costs in 2021 are also related to some payments that were originally planned for 2020, but have been postponed. This suggests, AFP points out, that the budget deficit in the current 2020 will be lower than the planned 218 billion euros.
