The Champions League started the new season with the craziest first half when Salzburg played in Seville (1-1).
In the first 45 minutes, referee Aleksey Kulbakov pointed to the penalty spot four times. Luka Sucic (21st) on the side of the Mozartstädter and Ivan Rakitic in the Andalusians (42nd) met, Karim Adeyemi (13th) and Sucic with his second attempt (36th) had forgiven.
“We didn't have a lot of possession in the first half, but we had enough chances,” said Adeyemi, looking at the flood of penalties. Even the Bulls could have put the front in front. “I didn't put the first one in,” said the German team player on “Sky”.
Before the second penalty, the German had spoken to Sucic. Did Adeyemi want to shoot again? “There were no discussions. I didn't want to do that. It was for Luka,” said the 19-year-old with a smile. Sucic did better, scored, but forgave himself in the 36th minute and failed on the pole.
Nevertheless, Adeyemi indicated that he is the one-shot penalty taker in the Mozart townspeople. “If I say that I'm ready to shoot again, I could get the chance. But I also trust my teammates to do it,” said Adeyemi.
Maxi Wöber celebrated a prestigious success at his ex-club, even if the central defender had caused the penalty to make it 1-1. “We were really good in the game, we won the penalties through our switching actions. If you only take one penalty out of three, it is very bitter, when you look at the course of the game, there is a crying eye”, explained Wöber, but at the same time made it clear: “Sevilla are one of the best teams in Europe. Taking one point is a good starting point.”
It was clear from the start that Adeyemi and Sucic would be the designated penalty shooters. “We practiced that before Brondby. The two of them always hit it off. But there are exceptional situations, you shouldn't blame the boys,” said Wöber.
Salzburg goalscorer Sucic emphasized the positive in particular: “Scoring a point in Seville is crazy, not many teams can do that.”
