Bulgarian Defense Minister Stefan Yanev said that the country does not want to deploy additional NATO forces on its territory, since it does not see the need for it. He announced this on his Facebook.

He also noted that the alliance makes various kinds of comments regarding the increase in the military presence of the Russian military at the borders of Ukraine and the need to respond to this by increasing the NATO contingent in Bulgaria and Romania. According to him, the final decision on this matter has not yet been made.

“Such a debate, accordingly, may lead to an undesirable increase in tension in the region. At this stage, there is no reason to consider the observed processes as a direct threat to the alliance and its security zone. In this connection, I believe that there are no necessary circumstances that can explain the deployment of additional troops on our territory, ”the minister summed up.

Earlier, the Minister of Defense of Lithuania Arvydas Anushauskas said that the territorial integrity and inviolability of the borders of Ukraine are extremely important for the Baltic countries and they are ready to immediately provide it with any assistance if necessary. He added that Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia also support reforms in the country's defense sector and its desire to work with NATO to ensure its security.
