Canadian officials said they were reviewing the request, but warned that CRV7s could be dangerous to use and transport.

The head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine called on Canada to transfer decommissioned CRV7 missiles to Ukraine.

He stated this in an interview with the Canadian edition of Global News.

This would help Ukraine fend off Russian troops and save Canadian taxpayers the cost of destroying them, he said.

“We hope this there will be a winning situation,” Budanov said.

Although Canada has used the CRV7 on aircraft such as the CF18, the RUR chief said that Ukraine has ground-based launchers capable of firing them. He clarified that RV7 missiles can be used both in Ukrainian attack helicopters and in ground launchers to destroy Russian tanks and artillery.

Over 83,000 ground attack missiles CRV7stored at the Canadian Forces Ammunition Depot at Dundurn, south of Saskatoon. Most of them are tubes with rocket engines, but no warheads. Canada no longer needs them and has chosen a private contractor to dispose of them.

Canadian officials said they were reviewing the request, but warned that CRV7s could be hazardous to use and transport.

“The Ukrainians say they are in a dire situation and are willing to take risks. They said they are used to working with old ammunition, such as the CRV7,” the publication writes.

“We are not afraid”, said Budanov.

In addition to concerns about whether they can be safely transported by air, handing them over to Ukraine would mean terminating the contract with the recycling company that is building a special facility for the job.

“Instead of forcing Canadians to pay millions of dollars to decommission these weapons, Conservatives call on the Trudeau government to transfer these weapons to Ukraine, which can use them to defend its sovereignty,” the Conservative Party of Canada said in a statement .

What is known about CRV7

missiles

CRV7 (abbreviation for Canadian Rocket Vehicle 7) are 70mm unguided aircraft missiles designed to engage ground targets.

Rockets consist of several parts: a body, rocket fuel, and an engine. Even if a significant portion of these missiles cannot be used in gun mounts, they can still be converted to other uses.

According to experts, since CRV7s use solid fuel, they can be safe provided they are stored properly and not exposed to moisture or contamination.

It was previously reported that Australia would dispose of Taipan helicopters, which Ukraine asked to transfer to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The media also wrote that the United States was disposing of hundreds of ATACMS that could be transferred to Ukraine. However, the Pentagon denied information about intentions to dispose of ATACMS missiles.
