Bronze Age treasure found in Sweden

Moscow. April 30. INTERFAX.RU – Swedish cartographer Thomas Karlsson found a Bronze Age treasure in the forest north of Gothenburg, which is about 2500 years old. It is reported by BBC News.

Karlsson's finds include necklaces, bracelets, and clothing pins. In total, about 50 items were found.

Archaeologists note the rarity of the find and suggest that the treasure is an offering of ancient people to deities. They left their gifts in rivers and marshlands.

Probably, Karlsson found the treasure after it was dug up by wild animals, leaving objects on the surface. The cartographer said that at first he mistook the ancient jewelry for a lamp, noticing the shine of the metal. After examining the find, he thought that these were copies, but decided to consult with archaeologists, who told about the real value of the items. They noted that since the excavation of bronze shields at Froslund in the mid-1980s, no such antiquities have been found in Sweden.

The experts also added that most of Karlsson's findings can be associated with women of high status. Archaeologists also noted that the treasure included a rod similar to those found in Denmark.

According to Swedish law, the finder of the historical property must report this to the police or local authorities, as they are considered state property. For this, the authorities can issue a reward.
