Scientists in England conducted a study according to which they pointed to a decrease in the effectiveness of existing vaccines against coronavirus. This is due to the spread of the “delta strain” in the world. Bloomberg reported this on Wednesday with reference to a study.
The study, conducted from June 24 to July 12, involved about 98 thousand people across England. According to experts, the effectiveness of vaccines against coronavirus infection has decreased to 49%, although this figure was 64% a month ago.
Scientists are confident that new drugs may be needed to combat the spread of the “delta strain”.
As kp.ru previously wrote, the “delta strain” was first discovered in India in October 2020. The world dubbed him Indian. The All India Institute of Medical Research reported that this variant of the virus is capable of infecting even people who are vaccinated. There are two vaccines in use in India: Covaxin and Covishield.
Earlier, Rospotrebnadzor advised citizens of the Russian Federation to undergo revaccination in order to protect themselves from the new “delta strain”. According to the Ministry of Health, more than 37 million people were vaccinated in the Russian Federation over the entire period of the epidemiological program aimed at protecting Russians from infection.
