The British newspaper The Guardian distorted the words of Russian President Vladimir Putin at the annual big press conference on the readiness to fight with Ukraine. The material was published on the website of the publication.

“The Russian president did almost nothing to ease tensions around Ukraine when he spoke at a televised press conference, saying he would be ready to launch an invasion if he sensed that Ukraine or its Western allies were preparing an attack on Russian henchmen in the country,” the newspaper writes. …

However, The Guardian did not provide a direct quote from the politician – Putin did not utter these words during the press conference.

Earlier, Vladimir Putin said that he responded to the proposal of US President Joe Biden to appoint those responsible for negotiations on security guarantees in Europe. The Russian leader said that the talks will take place “at the very beginning of the year in Geneva.” Putin noted the positive reaction of his American colleagues. The President expressed hope that the development of the situation will follow the diplomatic path.
