British authorities advised supermarkets to stock up on food

The UK government has warned supermarkets of a possible shortage of goods and medicines, so it recommended to build up stocks. British authorities fear that Brexit without an agreement could lead to a rush for food, medicine and other vital items, according to the Sunday Times .

In particular, out of such concerns, a requirement has already been put forward for suppliers to create stocks, which should be enough for six weeks, and provide storage conditions. This primarily applies to drugs, medical devices and vaccines.

It is expected that in the near future British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen will discuss the situation with the negotiations and decide whether it makes sense to continue them.

Since 2021, Great Britain will finally leave the European Union, so the parties need to have time to agree on the principles on which they will interact in the future in a variety of areas – from economy and trade to legal proceedings before the end of the year.
