Britain has decided to stop issuing “golden visas” – investor visas. The Financial Times found out about it.

The plan to revise the Tier 1 Investor visa program appeared in London after the attempt to poison former GRU colonel Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in the spring of 2018.

According to associates of the head of the British Home Office Priti Patel, she is going to cancel investor visas amid fears that they can be used for money laundering. Government officials also confirmed these plans.

An investor visa is granted to those who are ready to invest in the UK at least two million pounds (about 204 million rubles). At the same time, in order to combat “dirty money”, foreigners were obliged to explain the origin of capital at the request of law enforcement agencies.

In April last year, it was reported that more than half of the issued “golden passports” of Cyprus could be canceled because they were obtained outside the legal framework. The authorities of this country illegally issued 3.5 thousand “golden passports” to the relatives of investors as part of the citizenship-for-investment program. This conclusion was made by an independent commission, specially created for verification.
