Since August 13, British authorities have evacuated nearly 6,000 people from Afghanistan. The British Department of Defense gives the exact number of evacuees: 5,725, with over half of them – 3.1 thousand – Afghans falling under the relocation program and their families.
The military department notes that on board British aircraft from Kabul flew citizens of the United Kingdom, including embassy officials, as well as a small number of citizens of other countries.
In addition, the Ministry of Defense said that the evacuation process will last “as long as the security situation will allow it to be carried out in coordination with partners from the United States,” and that there is no clear date for the termination of civil flights, TASS reports.
We will remind, as the website kp.ru wrote, earlier British Interior Minister Priti Patel said that the British authorities decided to accept about 20 thousand refugees from Afghanistan, captured by the Taliban (a terrorist organization banned in Russia). She called on the European Union and other countries to follow the example of the United Kingdom.
