Britain has officially declared Russia the “greatest” nuclear and military threat to European security, the corresponding document was published by the UK Department of Defense. On Monday, March 22, RIA Novosti reports.
The document notes that Russia has the ability to deprive Britain and its allies of freedom of action “with the help of a highly effective interned air defense system.”
“Consequently, Russia can pose a significant threat to Britain's ability to support its forces and protect interests in Europe, the eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East,” the text says.
The department also believes that the modernization of the Russian armed forces, the ability to “integrate all state activities” and the appetite for risk make Russia “both a skillful and unpredictable player.”
Earlier, Russian Ambassador Andrei Kelin said that Moscow does not consider Great Britain a hostile power and stated the death of political relations with London.
On March 16, Great Britain recognized Russia as one of the main and acute threats. The review of the security, defense and foreign policy of the United Kingdom states that London will defend itself “against any threat posed by the Russian side.” In addition, the country plans to send its armed forces abroad much more often, as well as to increase the defense budget.
