Britain is thinking about new sanctions against Russia

by alex

The UK is exploring the possibility of introducing new sanctions against Russia due to the arrest of Alexei Navalny. This, as reported by the Evening Standard, said British Minister of State for European and American Affairs Wendy Morton, speaking before the House of Commons.

“We are carefully considering all possible options for further sanctions,” Morton said.

She added that she considers it inappropriate to comment on further steps, as it could undermine their influence.

Morton said Britain was “shocked” by the “politically motivated” detention of Alexei Navalny and called for the “immediate and unconditional” release of the politician.

She also condemned the “unacceptable” use of violence by the authorities against participants in unauthorized rallies in Russian cities over the past weekend.

As Rambler reported, on January 17, Alexei Navalny was detained at Sheremetyevo airport after returning from Germany, where he had been since August, due to systematic violations of the conditions of the probationary period. Later, the court arrested the politician pending consideration of the issue of changing his sentence from a conditional to a real one in the Yves Rocher case.
