Britons who provide housing for Ukrainian refugees will receive 350 pounds a month
Britain will pay its citizens to open their homes to Ukrainians fleeing the Russian invasion.
This is reported by Reuters.
A new program called “A Home for Ukraine” will allow refugees from Ukraine to come to Britain, even if they have no family ties there.
The UK will pay its citizens £350 ($456) a month if they can offer refugees a free room or property for at least six months.
Legislators from all major political parties have criticized the British government's requirement that Ukrainians have visas and biometric tests before arriving in Britain, saying it is a bureaucracy's priority over the safety of those fleeing the war.
Under the new scheme, members of the public, charities and businesses will be able to offer housing to Ukrainians through a web page.
“The UK stands with Ukraine in the darkest of times and the British public understands the need to get as many people to safety as quickly as possible. I call on people across the country to join the national effort and offer support to our Ukrainian friends. Together we can give a safe home those in dire need,” said Housing and Utilities Minister Michael Gove.
Anyone offering a room, room, or house will need to show that the accommodation is up to standard, and possibly pass a criminal record check.
Recall that the United Kingdom sent humanitarian aid to Moldova for Ukrainians.
