Britain has announced assistance to Ukraine in purchasing modern military equipment – what is it about

The country's Defense Ministry has already signed a number of important contracts with British companies.

The United Kingdom has allocated 3.5 billion pounds sterling, which is almost 4.5 billion dollars, to Ukraine for the purchase of modern military equipment from British manufacturers.

About this the UK government website said.

A UK trade mission led by Defence Minister Luke Pollard visited Ukraine to discuss further cooperation with Kiev and industry representatives. The mission also included representatives from the Ministry of Defence, the Department for Business and Trade and the ADS Defence Association.

The mission is a follow-up to an agreement signed in July 2024 to allow Ukraine to spend £3.5 billion on purchasing modern military equipment from British manufacturers.

The Minister of the Armed Forces said that Britain has been consistently supporting Ukraine not only in providing military equipment, but also in developing cooperation with the Ukrainian defence industry. This helps to attract investment and strengthen the capabilities of both countries.

Pollard noted that Britain's support goes far beyond just providing equipment.

“Our defence industry relationship is emblematic of the work of the government and the private sector to increase and accelerate our support. By deepening our ties with Ukraine's defence industry, we are expanding our own industrial capacity while enhancing Ukraine's capabilities,” he said.

The UK MoD has already secured a number of important contracts with British companies. In particular, this concerns the supply of air defense missiles and Sheffield Forgemasters (a key supplier of custom components for the defense industry) for the manufacture of forgings for artillery barrels.

“Future orders are in preparation and will be financed by Ukraine using its own reserves and £3.5 billion of export financing from the United Kingdom,” the statement said.

Recall that British Foreign Secretary David Lammy previously noted that the UK will have a clear position on providing Ukraine with everything it needs in the coming days and weeks, Zarema, 2025 years.
