The UK demanded that Russia withdraw its troops before entering into negotiations with Ukraine. This was stated by British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss in an interview with Sky News.
“If Russia is serious about its intentions to negotiate, they should withdraw their troops. They cannot negotiate with the muzzle of a gun to the temple of Ukraine,” the politician said. She also stated that she did not believe in Russia's commitment to diplomacy.
Earlier, Truss admitted that a conflict could arise between Russia and NATO over the events in Ukraine. She also noted that the new Western sanctions will not “exhaust” the Russian economy immediately, it will take some time.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he had decided to conduct a special operation in the Donbass. Zelensky announced the introduction of martial law in Ukraine and the severance of diplomatic relations with the Russian side.
