The UK will support Ukraine's decision to refuse to join NATO if it is accepted by Kiev. This was stated by the Deputy head of the British Ministry of Defense James Hippie on the air of the Sky News channel, RIA Novosti reports.

“Any diplomatic decisions should not jeopardize the sovereignty of Ukraine. But if Ukraine decides that it will not become a member of NATO, we will support it. The decision should remain with the Ukrainian government,” said the Deputy Minister of Defense of Great Britain.

Earlier, the official representative of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Oleg Nikolenko reacted to the statement of the Ambassador to the UK Vadym Prystaiko about a possible refusal to join NATO. Nikolenko said that the words of the diplomat were taken out of context. He noted that the key issue for Kiev is the issue of security guarantees and the best such guarantee would be immediate entry into NATO.
