An old bridge in Vadodara district collapsed under vehicles. People died, search for missing persons continues.
A tragic accident occurred in Vadodara district in the Indian state of Gujarat on Wednesday morning when the Mujpur Gambhira bridge collapsed, sending around seven vehicles flying into the Vishwamitri River.
Vibes of India writes about this.
At least nine people, including a child, have died. Five have been rescued, but the search operation is ongoing – the death toll may rise. NDRF teams are taking part in the rescue operations, and locals are actively helping.
The bridge, built more than 30 years ago, has long been the subject of complaints from local residents due to its state of disrepair. But, as it turns out, no action has been taken by the authorities.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has ordered an investigation. Bridge experts have been dispatched to the site. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is abroad, has contacted the state leadership to clarify the details.
The opposition accuses the government of criminal negligence. Leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party and the Indian National Congress have called for an independent probe and demanded accountability from officials.
Recall that on July 1, in the city of Hyderabad in the southern Indian state of Telangana (India), a powerful fire occurred at a new chemical plant of the company Sigachi Industries. According to official data, at least 39 people died as a result of the tragedy.
The fire broke out after an explosion that set a large part of the plant on fire. At the time of the incident, more than 140 workers were on the plant's premises. Some of them managed to evacuate, but many were trapped between the fire and the destroyed structures.
Rescuers fought the flames for several hours, after which they began to clear the rubble in search of victims. As of Tuesday evening, the bodies of 39 dead people had been found, and another 34 people were injured and taken to hospitals.
