Brazil's soccer boss suspended after harassment charges

One week before the planned kick-off at the Copa America in Corona hotspot Brazil, the president of the Brazilian football association CBF has been suspended for a month. The CBF association announced the decision of its ethics committee on Sunday (local time) because of the allegation of sexual harassment.

The committee is now investigating the allegations against Caboclo, which means that the suspension could be extended further, it said. Vice-President Antonio Carlos Nunes will temporarily take over the official business.

According to media reports, a CBF employee had previously accused the association boss of sexual harassment. He is said to have asked her about her sex life and insulted her. He also tried to control their relationships with other employees and their clothing style.

However, Caboclo has recently been criticized for the surprising move of the Copa America to the virus variant area Brazil. There should be great resistance to the tournament in the middle of the corona pandemic within the Brazilian national team. “Everyone knows our position. It couldn't be any clearer,” said national team captain Casemiro on Friday after the World Cup qualifier against Ecuador.
