Brazil conducted the first flight tests of an electric plane

The Brazilian company Embraer conducted the first flight tests of an experimental electric aircraft, TASS reports with reference to the press service of the aircraft manufacturer.

“The first takeoff of our first zero-emission electric aircraft represents a significant contribution from our team and partners to the industry's energy transition,” said Luis Carlos Afonso, Vice President of Engineering, Technology Development and Corporate Strategy.

An experimental aircraft is being tested at the flight center in Gaviau Peixoto, São Paulo state, Brazil. It is based on the EMB-203 Ipanema light single-engine agricultural aircraft. It has a WEG powertrain and EDP batteries.

During the first manned flight, the operation of the electric power plant, its capacity, the temperature control system and the safety system were checked.

Russian engineers have created an electric motor for a passenger plane. So far, it has been installed on a Yak-40 turbojet, but in the future it will be able to replace the power plants that are now running on fuel.

The Netherlands is also planning to pilot electric aircraft. In Finland, the launch of electric aircraft on domestic routes is predicted before the end of the decade.
