Austria's best boxer wants to take back the EU title on December 4th. The fight is the highlight of the eighth Bounce Fight Night in Vienna.
The 8th Bounce Fight Night comes up with a special highlight: Austria's currently best boxer Marcos Nader challenges the reigning EU middleweight champion, the German Marten Arsumanjan (27), on December 4th at the Hotel Intercontinental. “I was a spectator at the last Bounce Fight Night, but now I want to be in the ring again,” said the 31-year-old, who is already fully training. “I want the title back.”
The European Boxing Union (EBU) is one of the four major world federations and awards the title of European Champion (EBU) and the subordinate titles of EU European Champion and European Champion of non-EU countries. Nader had already won the EU title on June 13, 2013 and successfully defended it on the national holiday of the same year. On January 26, 2014, the Viennese then lost his title defense.
Now he has the chance to win the coveted belt again. In twelve rounds in the Vienna city center hotel it will be decided whether the title will stay in Germany or move to Austria. “I would describe the EU title as a preliminary stage to the European title,” said Daniel Fleissner, President of the Austrian Boxing Association (ÖBV). “If he won the fight, you can assume that the reigning European champion will say at the next opportunity that he wants to box against the EU title holder.”
Nader's record from 25 fights stands at 23 wins, one defeat and one draw. He is currently number 11 in the middleweight world rankings of the International Boxing Federation (IBF). “If you win, you have to be among the top ten at the IBF,” said Fleissner. This would increase the chance of a duel with world champion Gennadi Golowkin from Kazakhstan. “To get one fight against that would be a sensation for Austria.”
Hardest fight of the career
The management of Arsumanjan is also looking forward to the fight. “It will be the hardest of their careers for both boxers,” says manager Michael Klug. Daniel Nader, the brother and coach of Marcos Nader, spoke in a broadcast of a great challenge. “Arsumanjan is a tough opponent who will defend his title by all means,” he said.
The Bounce Fight Night is considered Austria's most successful boxing event. The eighth edition, which will be broadcast live on ORF Sport +, will feature four amateur fights and four professional fights.
