Josep Borrell: EU must continue to support Ukraine in resisting Russian pressure

The outgoing year 2021 will be remembered for the European Union (EU) with striking examples of power politics, which were observed in Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova. This was stated by the EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Josep Borrell, the website of the European External Action Service reports.
Borrell urged EU countries to continue to support Ukraine and other eastern neighbors in resisting Russian pressure. He also recalled the importance of maintaining a firm approach to the official Minsk. “In this regard, the Eastern Partnership Summit has confirmed the strategic, ambitious and far-sighted approach of the EU to our Eastern European partners,” the politician concluded.
Earlier, the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said that if the situation around Ukraine escalates, the European Union will impose sanctions against Russia. According to her, the restrictions are already in place. Von der Leyen added that the EU countries are united and act in coordination with the US and NATO.
