The diplomat said that the pontiff "entered a garden where no one called him".
Ukraine should not be called upon to surrender to Russian aggressors, but rather to increase assistance.
About this said European Union High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Josep Borrell, commenting on the words of the Pope, who called on Ukraine to have “the courage of the white flag” and be ready for negotiations with Russia.
Borrell noted that the Pope “entered the garden where no one invited him.”
“Calling Ukraine to surrender is more than a wish for peace. I believe that now is not the moment when we need to ask Ukraine to surrender. On the contrary, this is the moment when we need to increase assistance to the country,” Borrell emphasized .
We recall that it was previously reported that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz responded to the Pope’s statement about the “white flag”.
In addition, we previously reported that the EU foreign policy chief stressed that Ukraine cannot wait for help until the US presidential elections in November.
