Head of EU diplomacy Josep Borrell opposed the proposal to ban the issuance of Schengen visas to all citizens of the Russian Federation.
According to him, EU should be more selective.
This is reported by Bloomberg, citing Borrell's statement at a conference in Spain.
According to Borrell, the ban on entry into the European Union should concern representatives of large Russian business. But they say “there are a lot of Russians seeking to escape from the Russian Federation, because they do not want to live in such a situation.”
“This is a very controversial proposal. Denying entry to all Russians is not the best idea. We should be more selective,” said Josep Borrell.
Borrell noted that some countries have already taken a number of measures to ban visas, and some other EU countries are not going to support such a ban.
Recall , the Czech Parliament opposed the opening of Schengen visas for Russians.
Earlier it was reported why visa sanctions are important for Russians and which European officials do not support restrictions.
