Boris Johnson
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson called vaccine opponents crazy. A video of his speech at the UN was published on the organization's YouTube channel.
“It will be a terrible tragedy if we play into the hands of crazy anti-vaccinators, dangerous individuals with obsessions who oppose the very principle of vaccination,” Johnson said. He added that not vaccinating could endanger millions of lives.
TASS reports that a rally against quarantine measures is being held in central London today, which was attended by more than 15 thousand people.
On the eve it became known that panic was noticed in British stores due to the strengthening of quarantine rules and the worsening situation with the coronavirus. Supermarkets have started to impose restrictions due to increased demand for a number of products. Specifically, Tesco, the UK's largest retailer, now allows a maximum of three packs of flour, pasta, toilet paper and other essentials to be purchased. Residents of the country fear an imminent repetition of the lockdown – the country has the worst infection rates per day since the start of the pandemic.
Earlier in September, Johnson announced new quarantine rules that will be in effect for the next six months. He urged all those who can work from home to stop going to offices. In addition, in public places it is now always necessary to wear masks; for non-compliance with this rule, the fine has been increased to 200 pounds sterling (about 20 thousand rubles). At the same time, if the police fail to control the measures, the authorities will be able to resort to the help of the army. On September 18, Johnson admitted that a second wave of coronavirus infection is starting in the country.
