Book publishers demanded to fine Telegram for piracy

by alex

The Association for the Protection of Copyright on the Internet (AZAPI) appealed to Roskomnadzor with a demand to punish Telegram for not deleting prohibited information. The publishers said that the messenger does not comply with the court's request to remove pirated copies of the books and does not block the channel distributing them. The reason for the appeal was Telegram's refusal to delete the book by Boris Akunin “History of the Russian State. Between Asia and Europe ”.

According to Vedomosti, the court ordered Telergram to remove Akunin's work, as well as the book Alive in the Dark by Mike Omer within 24 hours.

The provision of the Code of Administrative Offenses (CAO), according to which AZAPI asks to bring Telegram to justice, provides for a fine for legal entities from 800,000 to 4 million rubles. According to Maxim Ryabyko, a member of the board of the association, Telegram is one of the largest sources of book piracy on the Runet. Earlier, he also stated that the association wants to gain a “critical mass” of court decisions in order to demand the blocking of the entire Telegram messenger for multiple violations.

AZAPI represents the interests of Eksmo-AST, Azbuka-Atticus, Alpina Publisher and other publishers.

Earlier, “Secret” wrote that publishing houses AST and “Eksmo” won the court against Telegram because of the books “Ni Si” and “Metro 2033”.
