Jair Bolsonaro
Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro called on the citizens of the country to stop “whining” over the coronavirus. Reported by Reuters.
Deaths from COVID-19 in Brazil hit record highs this week. On Wednesday, 1,910 deaths were recorded, the highest ever recorded in a pandemic. On Thursday, their number dropped to 1,699, but more than 75,000 new cases of the virus were detected in the country.
Against the backdrop of growing mortality, the head of state urged citizens to stop complaining. “How long are you going to stay at home and close everything? Nobody can stand it anymore. We feel sorry for the victims, but we need to do something about it, ”Bolsonaro said.
Earlier, the Brazilian leader explained his reluctance to introduce epidemiological measures by the fact that “eternal life with coronavirus” awaits people. He called on regional politicians to abandon mandatory control over the observance of social distance and instead “learn to live with the virus.” According to Bolsonaro, restrictions will get you nowhere.
