US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has revealed the topics he wants to discuss with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Geneva, RIA Novosti writes with reference to the politician’s speech in Berlin.
According to him, at the upcoming talks, he will urge the Russian side to work together on “restoring and improving the security architecture of Europe.” Blinken warned Moscow that “aggression” against Ukraine would negate such opportunities. “I will urge Russia to find a way back to the agreements it has signed for decades and to work with the United States,” the Secretary of State said.
He threatened Russia with strengthening NATO in response to Russia’s possible “invasion” of Ukraine.
Earlier, the US State Department confirmed the talks between Lavrov and Blinken in Geneva on January 21. On January 18, the diplomats phoned and discussed negotiations on security guarantees (their project was proposed by Moscow) and the situation in eastern Ukraine. Lavrov insisted that Washington stop “replicating speculations about Russian aggression.”
