US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken called the Nord Stream-2 pipeline a lever of pressure on Germany and the United States due to the lack of gas in the pipes. While the project has not started work, it serves to influence Western countries, the diplomat said at a press conference following talks with the German Foreign Minister. The quote is quoted by RIA Novosti.
He recalled that Washington had previously been opposed to the construction of the pipeline.
From the point of view of construction, Nord Stream-2 is fully ready for operation. Both threads are filled with technical gas. However, the operator of the Nord Stream 2 AG project has not yet reported that it has handed over to BNetzA documents about a subsidiary that it is creating to manage the gas pipeline in Germany.
In addition, earlier in January, 25 Democratic senators proposed banning operations with primary and secondary government debt of Russia, imposing sanctions against the Russian banking sector and the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline in the event of an escalation of the conflict in Ukraine.
