US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, in an interview with CBS, announced Washington's desire to maintain military contacts with Moscow in order to prevent miscalculations in the situation around Ukraine. It is reported by TASS.

Blinken was asked what the United States administration is doing to reduce the risk of “an accidental escalation [of US forces] with Russian forces” in Ukraine. “You always want to make sure you don't have miscalculations, accidents. So what we want to do is be in contact with Russia militarily to make it very clear what it risks if it miscalculates,” he said.

The US Secretary of State added that Ukraine “is under threat and may well be under siege.” The United States is “concerned about the safety of all our friends in Ukraine, officials and others,” he said. Blinken stressed that Washington is doing everything possible to support them.

Earlier, members of the House of Representatives of the US Congress decided to discuss a resolution calling for Russia to be excluded from the UN Security Council because of the Russian military operation in the Donbass. Claudia Tenney, member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee (R-New York), initiated the initiative.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he had decided to conduct a special military operation in the Donbass. He noted that the reason for this was requests for help from the heads of the Luhansk and Donetsk People's Republics.
