In Poltava, a 63-year-old pensioner staged a massacre in a shopping center. As a result of the attack, one man was killed, his friend was rescued by medics.
According to local media, the incident occurred in the Mir shopping center in the Levada neighborhood. A pensioner with a bloody knife was detained at the scene.
What the witnesses saw
According to the preliminary version, the conflict between the men occurred inside the shopping center at the entrance to one of the supermarkets.
It is not yet known whether the men were acquainted with each other. The 63-year-old man was the first to approach two comrades and began calling them names.
When he was asked to leave, the pensioner went to the supermarket, bought a knife and attacked the men on the way out. He hit the first man in the chest, the second man managed to defend himself and escaped with light cuts.
The first man, according to eyewitnesses, died before the arrival of doctors, and the floor around him was covered with blood stains.
What the police say
Criminal proceedings have been opened under part 1 of Article 115 (Premeditated murder), part 3 of Article 15 and part 1 of Article 115 (Attempted premeditated murder) Criminal Code of Ukraine.
According to preliminary information, the pensioner had obvious signs of alcohol intoxication at the time of detention.
If the court proves the man’s guilt, he could face from seven to fifteen years behind bars. The circumstances and motives of the crime are being investigated.
