In Winden, Switzerland, a man kicked a Maltese dog so hard that her eye was badly injured. This must now be surgically removed.
“I haven't slept all night,” says Borka Stojkovic from Gossau SG in Switzerland. Her nine year old Maltese bitch “Lady” was seriously injured in the head on Saturday in Winden TG. So much so that the left eye will soon have to be surgically removed. The incident occurred at the economy at Klösterli.
Stojkovic and her husband are members of the bocce club there. Several members of the association were busy cleaning up after the heavy snowfall of the past few days. At the same time, work was being carried out on a restaurant in the same building. The bitch “Lady” was there on Saturday. “It is harmless, but it barks at strangers or people who appear unexpectedly,” said Stojkovic. One person they kept barking at was a man who was renovating the restaurant and whom they encountered frequently.
When the man went to the toilet of the restaurant, the bitch barked at him again and ran towards him. “He made a move against the lady with the shoe, but didn't hit her,” says Stojkovic. When he came out of the toilet, the bitch barked again. Then everything went very quickly. “The man knelt down and hit the lady first with a wooden stick before he hit her on the head with his steel-cap shoe,” said the woman from Gossau. Her husband wanted to attack the man immediately, but then they noticed how badly Lady had been beaten up. “One of our club members saw Lady's left eye hanging out,” she says.
There was a heated argument between the man and the dog's family. Then you are directly with the dog in a small animal clinic in Herisau AR. There they tried to save the eye – in vain.
On Tuesday at the latest, Lady should be operated on and the eye removed. In the best case, the bitch could go on living with one eye. But it could also be that you have to put the bitch to sleep. “We are now ready on call and will immediately go to the animal hospital if your condition worsens,” says the woman from Gossau.
The accused did not deny to “20 Minuten” that he had given the bitch a “nudge”. “The dog attacked me twice and grabbed my pants, both times the owners did not whistle the dog back,” he says. The owners deny the bitch ever attacked him.
He has been attacked by dogs in the past and therefore has trouble with four-legged friends. “The second time I came back from the toilet, I waved my wooden meter at the dog and pushed it away with my shoe.” It was certainly not his intention to injure the dog like that. They said they would get the police, but they never showed up. “Then I left again,” he says.
According to the owners, the bitch's situation has stabilized, but she is clearly suffering. “She doesn't eat anything anymore and always runs into the wall or the sofa,” says Stojkovic. On Monday, she and her husband want to file charges against the dog kicker. “I want him to answer in court for what he did,” said Stojkovic.
