Bird flu outbreak recorded in Japan

Since the beginning of 2020, an outbreak of bird flu has been recorded in ten prefectures in Japan. This is reported by TASS with reference to the Kyodo agency.

In particular, on December 13, it became known about the identification of cases of infection in Shiga Prefecture. In this regard, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of the country held an emergency meeting, at which the government promised to help the region in the fight against the spread of infection.

In the past, an outbreak of bird flu in Hiroshima, Miyazaki, Wakayama, Oita, Kagawa, Nara, Fukuoka, Hyogo and Okayama killed more than 2.5 million chickens.

On December 8, it was reported that an outbreak of bird flu occurred in France. The H5N8 virus was found at a poultry farm in the Landes department (southwest of the country), where there are six thousand ducks. The outbreak first occurred on a farm in France: before that, the virus was found in three pet stores in the country back in mid-November.

An outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N8 avian influenza has also been reported in the UK, Germany, the Netherlands and Russia.
