Around 1,100 products at BIPA are now marked with a green label. This identifies sustainable products, explains the company.
To make it easier for customers to find their way around when shopping, around 1,100 products at BIPA are now marked with a green label. The basis for this is the Greenpeace Quality Mark Guide. In this, Greenpeace has drawn up a list of quality marks that are common in drugstore retailers and that assess them according to clearly defined criteria. Every product that bears at least one quality mark that has been rated as trustworthy by Greenpeace is given a green label.
“The need of customers for transparency is growing and sustainability is already firmly anchored in people's consciousness. The corona crisis has reinforced the topic again,” explains Thomas Lichtblau, spokesman for the BIPA management, and adds: “For buyers, However, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find your way around a large number of quality labels. Thanks to the green label, our customers can really be sure that the environment has been taken into account both in the selection of the ingredients and in the manufacture of these products. “
Greenpeace, the independent and internationally recognized environmental organization, has checked quality labels and assessed how trustworthy they are. These were classified as “dark green” – very trustworthy, “green” – trustworthy, “yellow” – partially trustworthy, “orange” – not very trustworthy and “red” – not trustworthy.
“With our label check 'Drawing Tricks' we offer orientation in the jungle of quality marks for cosmetics, cleaning products and the like. We are pleased that BIPA is now ensuring better transparency on the shelves on this basis. The green labels can help customers to recognize more environmentally friendly products at first glance and to avoid those with untrustworthy quality marks, “says Sophie Lampl, program director at Greenpeace.
In the approximately 600 BIPA branches throughout Austria, the green labels are now used as a guide when purchasing sustainable products. There are initially around 1,100 products to choose from that have at least one quality mark that Greenpeace has rated as trustworthy. At the same time, a new filter function was installed in the BIPA online shop with which you can search for “green products”. If you are particularly interested in natural cosmetics, you can already filter for “certified natural cosmetics”. All products shown have in common that they have at least one quality mark that has been rated as trustworthy by Greenpeace.
“Sustainability is an important topic for us. That is why the ongoing expansion and further development of our sustainability range is a core element of our corporate strategy. It is therefore very important to us to inspire our customers for sustainable products,” informs Thomas Lichtblau.
