Biologist: Ticks in central Russia are melancholic. EXCLUSIVE
Ticks that live in the forests of central Russia are melancholic and slow. In search of open areas of the skin of their victim, they can be up to several hours. The MIR 24 TV channel was told about this by a researcher at the Department of General Ecology and Hydrobiology, Faculty of Biology, Moscow State University. Lomonosov Vadim Maryinsky.
“After he hooks on the trouser leg (most often they cling to the trouser leg, and usually below the knee, in rare cases – just above the knee), then they crawl melancholy most often upward. A tick's walk in search of an exposed patch of skin to cling to can take from a few minutes to several hours, ”he said.
According to Vadim Maryinsky, if you walk into the forest in light-colored clothes, you can easily spot and throw off a tick, but you need to examine yourself and those who are walking nearby regularly, about once every ten minutes. The biologist has denied the myth that ticks fall on the victim from above. He noted that more often they crawl on the ground or sit in the grass.
“Ticks do not land from anywhere … They either crawl on the ground, and can crawl on a person when he squatted on a stump or lay down on the grass, or they can wait for the victim in a pose when the front limbs are spread in different directions, the hind ones grab a blade of grass and wait for someone to pass by them to catch on. They can sit on bushes, but it is important to understand that they need to climb higher than the height of a wild boar or roe deer at the withers, or an elk, ”he added.
