MOSCOW, June 23. / TASS /. The Delta variant of the coronavirus, first discovered in India, differs from other strains in the rapid consolidation of lung damage. This was announced on Wednesday in an interview with Lenta.ru by Ancha Baranova, doctor of biological sciences, professor at the School of Systems Biology at George Mason University (Virginia, USA).
“Judging by what the doctors say, the delta variant causes a rapid consolidation of the lung lesions. That is, their function is now decreasing much faster than at the beginning of 2020. The patient is admitted to the hospital with CT-2, tomorrow he has CT-3. and the day after tomorrow he is in intensive care, “the expert told the publication.
According to Baranova, from the point of view of molecular and cellular biology, in the near future, scientists will not be able to substantiate the consolidation of lung damage from the “Delta” strain due to the impossibility of rapid research. However, the biologist suggested that the reason lies in the mutation of little-known coronavirus proteins. “Perhaps in six months we will find out exactly what is happening,” she added.
The version of the coronavirus, officially named Delta, was first discovered in India last October, often referred to as the Indian strain. It is reported that this version is capable of infecting people even after they have been vaccinated with the coronavirus vaccine. WHO expert Maria van Kerkhove said on Monday that the Indian strain of coronavirus has so far been registered in 92 countries.
