So he answered the question of how serious the crisis caused by the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic will be. According to the businessman, the next four to six months could be the worst ever pandemic.
He supported tough measures to combat the coronavirus, including self-isolation and a ban on cafes and restaurants. “Another 200,000 people are predicted to die [from the coronavirus]. If we wore masks and kept our distance, we could have avoided most of the deaths, ”says Gates.
The businessman believes that the situation will return to normal some time after the start of mass vaccination, that is, by the summer of 2021. At the same time, he is convinced that the risk of contracting the virus will be high until 2022.
On December 9, Gates predicted that six manufacturing companies could be ready to use the coronavirus vaccine by next spring. According to him, in the near future, vaccines from AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson, Novavax, Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna may receive approval. At the same time, Gates did not name the sixth manufacturing company.
Vaccine makers Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca have started the process of registering their funds a few weeks ago. The first study of the Novavax vaccine showed that 56 volunteers developed high levels of antibodies to COVID-19 without dangerous side effects. Johnson & Johnson is also in the trial phase.
